System Requirements

The Following requirements must be met to get optimal performance out of your Squirrel Home Theater PC.

1. HDTV or CRT TV (required) Note: CRT requires special cable sold separately 

2. High Speed Internet (wired or wireless) or a WI-FI Hot spot with a mininum internet connection speed of 15 mbs, recommended speed is 25 mbs or better.  ( Not sure how fast your internet connection speed is?  See our troubleshooting section under support.)

Getting Started

Step 1. Remove contents from packaging.

Step 2. You should have: 

1x Squirrel Home Theater PC

  • Broadcom BCM2836 Arm7 Quad Core Processor powered Single Board Computer running at 900MHz
  • 1GB RAM
  • 40pin extended GPIO
  • 4 x USB 2 ports
  • 4 pole Stereo output and Composite video port
  • Full size HDMI
  • Micro SD port for loading your operating system and storing data
  • Micro USB power source
  • 16 GB Micro SD Card

Step 3. Place Squirrel in location with TV and power outlet.

Step 4. Plug HDMI cable into HDMI TV input. (Note: remember the TV HDMI input you plug into your TV will have to be set on that input to view the Squirrel.) Next  plug HDMI cable into Squirrels HDMI port.

Step 5. Plug power supply into wall outlet and plug power supply plug into the Squirrels power port.

You are now connected and powered on!  Turn on your TV, if it was off, and select whatever input you plugged the HDMI cable into on your TV.

Adjusting screen resolution

Step 1. Select System from the menu.

 

Step 2.  Select system from the bottom of the list.

Step 3. Highlight  Video Output.

Step 4. Arrow over to -Resolution and select -Resolution.

Step 5. Pick your Televisions resolution from the list. *NOTE: (most modern TV's will be 1920X1080p).

Video Calibration

Step 1. Select System from the menu.

 

Step 2. Select system from the bottom of the list.

Step 3. Highlight Video Output.

Step 4.  Arrow over and down to Video Calibration. Select Video Calibration.

Step 5.  Here you want to hold down the directional arrows on the remote (up, down, left, right) to adjust the top left and bottom right corners of the screen. After you have the top left corner bracket adjusted press the "OK" button on the remote and adjust the bottom right corner bracket and press "OK" on the remote. You should see a bracket in the top left and bottom right corners of screen when properly adjusted.  (as seen below.) Press "OK."

Step 6. After adjusting the corners of the screen you will need to adjust the subtitle bar this is done by holding down the up arrow on the remote until you have the title bar positioned on the screen to where you want it.  (example below.) Press OK after positioning.

Step 7. The final configuration is to adjust the box on the screen this normally does not require configuration just select the "OK" button here.

Step 8. Press the back arrow on the remote until you are back to the main screen.

Done.

 

Connecting to Wi-FI

Step 1. Select WI-FI from main screen it's located under the programs header.

 

Step 2. Highlight connections from list.

Step 3. Select your network name from the list on the right.

Step 4. Click Connect.

Step 5. Enter your network password.

Step 6. Select Done.

Once you see "ready" by your network name you are connected.

Troubleshooting

Not sure how fast your internet connection speed is?  Then you will want to run the following test.

Step 1. From your computer.  Go to this website and click begin test.  (www.speedtest.net)

Step 2. Wait for the tests to complete.

Once the test completes you will want to make a note of the download speed and verify with your internet service provider about how much speed you should be getting.
